County Commission scraps plan to change legal firms

Controversial plans to change legal firms representing Marshall County have been scrapped. The county commission was to vote Monday night on changing from Carnes & Carnes to the firm of Long, Flanagan, and McDonald, the firm of newly elected state Representative Wes Long.

Commission Chairman James Hutcheson declined to elaborate but said there were some circumstances that arose and the commission now feels it is not the time to make the appointment.

Some were critical of the move from a firm with two decades of experience in representing local governments to one that has never represented a local government.

Hutcheson said Carnes & Carnes would continue to represent the county for now.
