Burglar steals Japanese Yen from home

Albertville police are investigating a burglary in which currency was stolen.

Investigators said several items were taken in the burglary at a residence owned by Newman Technology, including 7,000 Japanese Yen.

Police are asking local businesses to be aware that someone may try to use this money for a purchase or try to convert the money at a local bank.

If anyone notices suspicious transactions involving Japanese Yen, contact Albertville Police.

The currency is worth about $70.

Man accused in restaurant assault

Albertville, AL (WAFF) - A Marshall County man is being held on $50,000 bond after an attack at a Mexican restaurant earlier this year.

19 year old Paul Mitchell Anderson Jr. is facing assault charges. Albertville Police tell us that the incident happened on January 18th at the El King Pollo Restaurant.

He was taken into custody earlier this week after a brief foot chase. He's being held in the Albertville City Jail, awaiting transfer to the Marshall County Jail.

Police in Boaz are investigating a rash of car break-ins at a church.

At least three vehicles were broken into during services at the New Faith Baptist Church on Sunday.

Hundreds of dollars worth of cash, clothing, and electronics were taken.

Police: Man flashes, assaults woman

Police say a man walked into a Boaz business Saturday afternoon and assaulted an employee.

The employee told police a white man with a slender build and light complexion entered the business on Butler Avenue where she was working and went behind the counter, then exposed himself.

The man, who police say is about 25-years-old, then grabbed the woman's head and slammed it down on the counter.

The offender left the business on foot and ran towards Boaz High School.

Boaz woman arrested on gambling charges

Boaz, AL (WAFF) - A woman from Boaz is free on $1,000 bond after being arrested and charged with possession of gambling devices on Wednesday.

According to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin, two electronic gambling devices were taken from the Jet Pep convenience store on Highway 431 in Carlisle. The machines were played by an undercover investigator who says it awarded credits that could be used to buy items in the store. The unused credits were turned in for cash. 33 year old Cecila Ann Slaten was taken into custody following the undercover operation.

"As a 30 year law enforcement officer in Etowah County, we've always arrested and prosecuted anyone who brings illegal electronic machines into the county." said Sheriff Entrekin. "And until those laws are changed, we will continue to do so," added Sheriff Entrekin.

Crossville, AL (WAFF) - Crossville Police officers and DeKalb County deputies got a two-for-one over the weekend, picking up a pair of suspects for two different crimes.

An officer was doing a routine traffic stop when he discovered the car was stolen. When DeKalb County deputies arrived to assist, they soon found drugs and drug paraphernalia inside.

36 year old Marty Smith of Albertville and 46 year old Cathy Perry of Dawson were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs. Both were taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center where they await bonds.

Two arrested for trying to pawn stolen tools

Gadsden, AL (WAFF) - Two people from Boaz are facing charges in Etowah County tonight.

According to Sheriff Todd Entrekin, 28 year old Joe Morris and 33 year old Melissa Jones are charged with receiving stolen property. Investigators say they were called to a local pawn shop earlier this month to check out some stolen items. The store owner told deputies about a suspicious man who tried to sell him tools the day before.
