Gadsden, AL (WAFF) - Etowah County deputies have arrested and charged a man after they say be broke into a home on Broadwell Road in Boaz.

Investigators say 48 year old Jay Parrish was trying to steal jewelry when the homeowner walked in on the crime in progress.

Parrish ran out, and tried to flee the scene in a van, which crashed into the homeowner's car. The homeowner was able to give police a good description of Parrish's van, which they used to track him down.

Parrish is being held in the Marshall County Jail on unrelated charges of criminal mischief. He'll face burglary and theft charges in Etowah County.
