Tree giveaway over at recycling center

ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The tree giveaway at the Albertville-Boaz Recycling Center ended Thursday morning, just hours after it started.

Keep Albertville Beautiful worked with the Alabama Forestry Commission to give away 700 trees. Types of trees included Nuttall Oaks, Bald Cypress, Green Ash, Red Maple, Red Bud and Overcup Oak.

Each person was allowed to take home up to five trees.

Keep Albertville Beautiful in conjunction with the Alabama Forestry Commission is hosting a tree giveaway on March 28th, 29th and 30th at the Albertville-Boaz Recycling Center from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day. 

The trees are 3 – 5’ tall, bare rooted and need to be planted as soon as possible.  

Types of trees include Nuttall Oaks, Bald Cypress, Green Ash, Red Maple, Red Bud and Overcup Oak. Anyone can participate.

USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA,) Rural Development (RD) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are holding five public meetings where USDA program updates and the Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers Claims Process will be discussed.  

The 180--day Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers claims filing period opened September 24, 2012, and will close on March 25, 2013.

Group gives away trees to boost tornado recovery

A tree give away aims to boost the tornado recovery in Albertville.

Two groups are combining for an Arbor Day tree give away.

Keep Albertville beautiful and the Albertville Lions Club will give trees away on February 25th.

The goal is to help tornado victims replace lost trees.
