ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF)- An Albertville man was arrested on burglary and arson charges for the fire that destroyed a Marshall County recycling center.
Investigators said 28-year-old Kevin Lee Davison started the fire at Big Marshall Recycling next to Bishop Landfill in Guntersville on July 6.
The fire burned for several days as temperatures reached record highs after the Forth of July weekend. The recycling center was closed for the holiday when the fire started.
A neighbor saw the smoke and called emergency crews. Smoke from the blaze could be seen for many miles.
The post-fire investigation was conducted by city, count, and state agencies, including Alabama State Fire Marshal's Office, Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Guntersville Fire Marshal Jim Mood, Marshall County EMA and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
Investigators believe Davison set the fire to cover up a burglary. Davison was previously investigated in 2007 for a burglary at the recycling center.
Investigators said the fire caused almost $1 million in damages.
Davison was booked into jail and charged with burglary and arson of a business. His bond was set at $45,000.
