HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- AAA says more than 33-million drivers will get on the road this Labor Day weekend. They say many are expected to travel more than 50 miles, which is nearly a 3 percent increase compared to last year.
Travel experts say when you get to your destination; expect to pay a little bit more for your hotels. Prices have gone up by at least 6 percent.
One driver says he'll go see family in Louisiana. He tries to leave before or after peak driving hours to avoid any hazards, but says he's always on the lookout.
"Always look out for the other driver, that's about the safest thing you can do and anticipate their mishaps and mistakes," said Thurmon Walters.
Travelers are also getting on the road despite the rising gas prices. The national gas price is at $3.80 a gallon right now. Gas experts say expect the price of gas to continue to rise through this weekend and the rest of the summer.
