'Super Citizen' program helps kids understand American freedom

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Some Marshall County School children are learning how to be super citizens.

Kids at Douglas Elementary got a pep talk Friday afternoon from Lady Liberty herself.

It's part of the "Super Citizen" program which aims to help kids understand the cost and value of American freedom as well as financial literacy and career development.

Organizers hope the program will be fun and rewarding for kids.

"We want them to be fired up and ready and kind of have this exciting attitude going into not your normal classroom lessons," said Patti Yancy, founder of Liberty Learning Foundation.

Yancy said the kids will have about 15-20 minutes of citizenship lessons each day.  The program will run through November.
