Thief steals assault rifle from Albertville patrol car | News
ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Albertville Police are on high alert after a crook stole an assault rifle from a patrol car.
The thief took the weapon from the car while at the officer's home.
Albertville Police Chief Doug Pollard said the thief broke out a window to the cruiser to gain entry into the vehicle around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Pollard said they were able to pry the AR-15 loose from the mounting bracket.
However, the chief said a secure lock was on the weapon at the time it was stolen.
He said nothing else was taken from the vehicle, although the person did go through the officer's briefcase where extra tickets were stored.
The chief said the focus now is finding the weapon.
"Biggest concern now is to get that rifle back, get it off the streets. That's my biggest concern right now. We're working on that right now. As a matter of fact, I've got all eight of my investigators looking in on this right now," he said.
