Marshall Co. man pleads guilty to girlfriend's murder
News
Ray Shockley will serve 40 years in prison for Tonya Turnmire's murder.

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- A Marshall County man pleaded guilty to the murder of an Albertville woman.

Ray Christopher Shockley received a 40 year
sentence in a plea deal after he pleaded guilty to the June 2010 murder of 36-year-old Tonya
Michelle Turnmire.

Turnmire was an employee
of Y-Mart in Boaz where the store's manager said Shockley tried to get them to
cash one of Turnmire's checks.

When they declined, a text
came to them that she was sick and couldn't come to work, and she was not seen
again.

In a statement to police,
prosecutors said Shockley admitted to slamming Turnmire's head against a door,
which led to her death.

He later dumped her body
in a rural area of Etowah County.

Her body was found heavily
decomposed a few weeks later.

It was an emotional day
for the victim's family, and they said there is no such thing as closure.

Shockley told family
members he was sorry in a hearing Wednesday afternoon.

Turnmire's mother said she
misses her daughter but is developing a wonderful bond now with her
grandchildren.
