Albertville man arrested for hunting with ATV on railroad tracks at night

What some people will do to kill a deer… It happened over the weekend just outside of Guntersville but landed one man in jail.

This guy was hunting off the railroad tracks and was in a vehicle - an electric ATV retrofitted to ride the tracks pretty much undetected at night.

He got caught was because of a shots fired call, and his vehicle broke down on the tracks.

36-year-old Chris Higdon of Albertville was arrested over the weekend, the final weekend of deer hunting season. He was charged with hunting from a railroad, night hunting, hunting without permission, as well as hunting with night vision equipment.

Conservation officers say Higdon had taken an electric ATV and extended the axles so it could line up with the tracks. Then he cut out the centers of the tires all the way around for them to ride on the rails.

Tree board community meeting

The Tree Board of the City of Albertville will host a meeting on October 12th at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall for the purpose of assisting those citizens that were affected by the tornado that devastated Albertville on April 24th.

“Fall is the beginning of tree planting season and we would like to help the residents of Albertville in determining what, how and when to plant trees to replace those lost in the storm”, said John Penny, President of the Tree Board. He went on to say that “this meeting is meant to assist citizens as they make their landscaping plans by offering knowledge and expertise - not dictate what can or can’t be planted.”

Reba Cofield, President of the Beautification Board adds that “as a member of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, the City of Albertville advocates the planting and nurturing of trees in our community. This outreach effort will allow us to share the City’s goals and concerns with our citizens.”
